Rough Draft for Concept in 60

With my Concept in 60 project, I have an idea that I am going to work on; I just have an outline of what I am thinking of doing because I am still searching for a video shot software to help me make the video. Here is my idea…

1. Cell phones, especially smart phones are an important part of my generation; we are on them too much to where it affects the people around us. I was thinking of making the video about how being on your cell phone blinds people from life because of how Facebook and Apps like Instagram have consumed the lives of many around me; this includes myself, too.

– I am going to put in screen shots of the different smart phone Apps, pieces of video from YouTube, and different screen shots of articles of how everyone is always on their cell phones.

  • Maybe the first shot is going to be a person “jaywalking” across the street, keeping their head down, watching their cell phone instead of watching where they are going.
  • Then I would add text that I would type into the video.
  • Include screen shots of titles of articles that write about the way we are on our cell phones and Facebook too much.
  • The video will have transitions to make it all run together well.
  • Then back to the video that was at the beginning to end it.

– Since YouTube is always stripping music from videos, I will try to add music from iMovie so that it’s not copyrighted.

– I wish I had a rough draft of a video, but I am still experimenting with screen and video shots on my MacBook.

I think what you have here sounds great! I admire you for trying to do this on a Macbook and then having to show it on a PC! How challenging! I really like this notion that cell phones “blind” us. This could be funny or serious depending on which way you take it. Good luck! I can’t wait to see the finished product!

I think you’ve got a solid concept with some great ideas. I agree with Sarah that this could be either a somewhat humorous video that points out these issues in a fairly genial way, or it could be really drop dead serious. I think both would work. Then of course you may be able to find a balance between the two. There really are a lot of great possibilities. I think you’ve got some strong ideas for the sort of scenes to include as well. It’s obvious you’ve got a pretty solid grip on the topic. It’s just a matter of getting the finer details down and putting it all together. ^_^ I look forward to seeing the final product.

I think your idea is well planned out and I anticipate seeing the shots you gather, because your message about how this generation is consumed in smartphones can have a strong impact and possibly shake people to not be so blind to their surroundings. Great concept and can’t wait to see your medium effectively portray your message.

Molly, I like your concept. I have observed the truth of what you are saying. Nearly everyone is talking on a cell phone, texting, checking e-mail, whatever. Are you going to include car accidents caused by drivers texting? Or has there been enough said about that already? Good luck!

Great to see someone addressing the cell phone epidemic. You planned out your concept pretty well and I hope you can find some decent software to put all this together. Sad that there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of free software out there for Macs, though.

What cell phone epidemic? There’s no problem. We’re all just fine with our phones.

Sarcasm aside, I’m looking forward to this piece. I like the concept, and as one of the indoctrinated smartphone using crowd, I am eager to see what you do with it. Your pieces throughout the semester have been interesting, so I hope that your final work lives up to your idea. If you’re having trouble with iMovie, I can’t offer much advice other than look for youtube tutorials, but you can probably link up with other students in the class using it for any assistance.

I don’t have much to say at this point; your idea is a good one, as many others have stated. The idea of cell phones blinding us is extremely relevant to our discussion of new media, and it’s something that I think every person in class will be able to relate to. I don’t personally use a smartphone, so I get to see the trances people get into when they do use them, so I understand very well the premise behind this video. Looking forward to it.

Interesting concept. I know I’ve spoken out in class in support of smart phones before, but there’s a difference between what I was advocating and the “trance” some people get when they have them in their hands. You’ve got a solid plan, though I do like the suggestion to go in a humorous direction. I think sticking to a grimly serious tone would come off a bit.. too much. But who knows!

I saw some girl almost get hit by a car yesterday cause she walked onto Cherry while texting. Your message could not be more true.
I’m really excited to see how your video comes out, knowing you it will be a piece of art! Your ideas and plans are solid, now I just have to wait to see it čÖé

I played around with this idea before I made my own video, so I think it’s totally relevant. I wish there was a video (or some semblance of one) to see what you’re envisioning, but I think there’s a ton you can do with this idea. Real-time shots (like actual video) could bring a new dimension to your video, and I like the suggestion of adding humor.

This is a good way to illustrate the bad side of new media. Texting and social media do consume a lot of people’s lives and it is a problem. I think you did a good job narrowing your concept down for your actual concept in 60.

My comment here is missing (is it in your SPAM folder, perhaps? Anyway, as I recall, what I said was (and repeated it verbally in class) that I thought the concept was good, generally, but I was concerned that you might have a bit of trouble with a focus… (a) cell phones, and particularly smart-phones, are good and quickly becoming vital and integral to (young) people’s lives; meanwhile, (b) adding to the distractions that hamper our accurate and safe daily behaviors is NOT good… not that technology (and other stuff besides cellphones: Google Glass is a prime example) has created a new problem that didn’t already exist with lipstick and electric shavers and that sort of thing… but maybe you want to take smaller bites? I dunno…
