Beginning a research project has steps that one takes in order to complete the paper. Within the class of Writing 502 at Winthrop University, I am going to analyze the steps of researching the poem “Requiem,” written by Anna Akhmatova. With having steps of going through a research paper, it is easier for a student, or anyone to get through to the end of it in an efficient manner.

1). Reading the poem is always the first step in researching, and analyzing the poem. Going through every part of the poem gives the reader an idea of the plot, what is going on, and gives the reader the direction in which to approach the paper. Reading each segment of the poem, and taking notes for each segment of the poem also gives the reader a clearer understanding of the poem.

2). With finally understanding the theme, the plot, and the characters of the poem, the reader who is doing the research for the poem is able to go on to the next step of actually beginning the paper. The person writing the research paper can now start on their introduction, and maybe the beginnings the of the paragraphs by outlining the paper. Now, the reader is able to go on with researching, and going through databases to see in more detail other people’s thought and opinions of the poem.

3). By going through databases on the online library through the university that they go to, or even public online databases, the student is able to go more in depth of what the poem is truly saying to the reader. Questions to ask one’s self is, does the poem have another meaning than what the student thought? Does the poem have different directions of themes? Do the characters connect together in different ways? How does the poem connect in other ways other than what the reader thought or thinks? Now, with these questions that researcher is able to go on with the paper in detail with their analysis of what, where, why, how, etc.

4). After going through databases, and thinking critically about the poem, research on the author could be another route of research that the student might take in writing the research paper. Researching the author could also give background of what the author background came from, where she lived, etc. This could be a critical part of the paper because the background details of the author’s life could be a very important part of the research paper. With knowing the knowledge of the author, the student writing the analysis will be able to connect the poem to the life of the author in many different ways. The author’s life is important because it usually is reflected in their work, like the poem that Anna Akhmatova wrote.

5). With all of this research, the writer of the research paper is able to complete the analysis paper completely. With the research, and the knowledge of the poem from reading it, the research of other’s opinions on the poem from the databases on the library website or a public database website, and from knowing the background of the author’s life, one will be able to achieve the goal of writing the analysis paper.

These steps will help with completing the analysis paper for the poem “Requiem;” the student will be able to complete the paper efficiently, and can now succeed at analyzing the poem thoroughly.

This video is about how to research a poem with writing an analysis with it. I wanted to explain myself carefully and thoroughly with how to research the databases easily online, and how to start writing the paper itself. With this video, I think it will be easier for someone who does not know how to start an analysis paper, they will be able to do these steps that I mention in my video quickly. I wanted to make the steps of going from the narrative part of my blog, to the video the same way. In my video, it is just a two minute step-by-step process of how to complete the analysis paper for the writer who is watching, and/or reading the blog about how to complete the analysis. Hopefully, the person who is watching or from reading the blog will be able to complete the research and analysis paper efficiently and thoroughly.
